Table of Contents

For most LEGO themes, we can’t accurately predict which sets will be released until they’re officially announced by LEGO. However, due to the unique nature of the IDEAS theme, we often know about upcoming sets months or even years before they hit the shelves.

The LEGO IDEAS sets that have already been released

So far in 2024, the LEGO IDEAS series has released six sets.

  • LEGO 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera
  • LEGO 21346 Family Tree
  • LEGO 21347 Red London Telephone Box
  • LEGO 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale
  • LEGO 21349  Tuxedo Cat
  • LEGO 21350 Jaws

August Update

lego idea Italian Riviera and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

On the evening of August 5th, the LEGO IDEAS team announced the results of the third review round for 2023. “Italian Riviera” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” have successfully passed the review and will officially enter the production phase.

As a result, two more IDEAS sets have now entered mass production, bringing the total to 12 sets currently being produced. Take a look and see if any of these are the ones you’ve been waiting for!

LEGO Ideas Nightmare Before Christmas

LEGO Ideas Nightmare Before Christmas

This Nightmare Before Christmas set, designed by Simon Scott, is one of the two winners from the second review phase of 2022 (results announced on February 8, 2023).

The 21347 London Red Telephone Box, which passed the review alongside it, was released this February, so we expect this set to be announced soon as well. There’s a rumor that it might officially launch in September 2024, but there’s no further information about the set at this time.

With the Nightmare Before Christmas movie celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2023, people had hoped the set would be released in the same year, but that now seems impossible.

LEGO Ideas Disney Magic

LEGO Ideas Disney Magic

In early May 2023, to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary, the LEGO Group launched a brand-new design challenge on the IDEAS platform. The winning design from this competition is expected to become the next official LEGO IDEAS set. Like the previous ‘What Does Family Mean to You?’ challenge, this is another collaboration between LEGO IDEAS and Target.

The final victory went to Disney Magic by 2A2A, whose design pays tribute to the magical world of Disney. It was the only entry among the finalists that included minifigures. The central feature of the design, a giant Sorcerer Mickey structure surrounded by elements from Disney films, is what truly gives this piece its charm.

Rumor has it that this set will be released in October 2024, with a total of 1,103 pieces, but this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

LEGO Idea Reading, Reading, Reading

LEGO Idea Reading, Reading, Reading

In June 2023, the LEGO IDEAS community launched a challenge themed around ‘Singles’ Day’ to select the latest GWP (Gift With Purchase) set for the IDEAS series.

The winning design, Reading, Reading, Reading, by Polish fan designer FR_AN, is now in production as a GWP set. However, detailed information about this GWP set has not yet been released.

LEGO Ideas Twilight Cullen House

LEGO Ideas Twilight Cullen House

In the first review phase of LEGO IDEAS in 2023, a total of 71 designs received 10,000 votes of support. After careful evaluation, the LEGO IDEAS team announced on December 19, 2023, the two designs they selected to become official sets.

One of these is Twilight: The Cullen House, which impressively reached 10,000 votes in just one day. It’s worth noting that this design bears a strong resemblance to the Friends series set 42639 Andrea’s Luxury Mansion.

Since the design was only approved in December 2023, it’s still in the early stages of development, so the set is expected to be released in 2025.

LEGO Ideas Botanical Garden

LEGO Ideas Botanical Garden

The other design that passed the review alongside Twilight: The Cullen House is Valentina Bima’s Botanical Garden, which has also entered the production phase and will become an official LEGO IDEAS set in the future.

This is the first modular building design to pass the review, and it’s quite different from any of the official modular sets released so far.

It remains to be seen whether the IDEAS team will retain the standard connection points, sidewalk, and streetlamp features. At the very least, these would help distinguish it from set 41757, Botanical Garden. We anticipate that this set will also not be released until at least 2025.

LEGO Ideas Knowledge is Power

LEGO Ideas Knowledge is Power

In November 2023, LEGO IDEAS, in collaboration with Target, launched a Wonderful STEM building competition. The results, announced in March, revealed that Knowledge is Power, designed by Danielbradleyy, was selected as an official LEGO IDEAS set.

This design consists of 528 pieces and has a style similar to the 40291 Creative Personalities set, but it incorporates elements symbolizing different STEM fields, including a city, satellite, space shuttle, robot, flowers, bees, and three minifigures.

LEGO Ideas Micro Rail Command Center

LEGO Ideas Micro Rail Command Center

In early January 2024, the LEGO® IDEAS community launched a design competition themed around Space Exploration, inviting participants to create designs for space vehicles or planetary bases.

The latest design to enter production, Miniature Orbital Command Center, is one of the winning entries from the Space Exploration competition. Designed by fan creator Falkorich, it consists of only 150 to 250 pieces. This set is now in production and will be released in the future as a LEGO GWP (Gift With Purchase) set or an insider reward set.

PS: JMBricklayer also has an interesting space set. You can click here for a quick look.

LEGO Ideas Lunar Rover

Like the Miniature Orbital Command Center, this Lunar Rover is also one of the winning entries from the Space Exploration themed design competition. Designed by fan creator EnchantingNoodle, it also consists of 150 to 250 pieces. This set will be released in the future as a LEGO GWP (Gift With Purchase) set or an insider reward set.

LEGO Idea Gachapon Machine

 LEGO Idea Gachapon Machine

On May 2nd, the LEGO IDEAS platform announced the results of the second review phase for 2023. Two designs, Minifigure Gacha Machine and West River Steamboat stood out from 49 submissions and will be turned into official LEGO IDEAS sets.

The Minifigure Gacha Machine is a non-IP design created by Belgian teacher Goosestore. He combined the traditional gumball machine with a capsule toy machine to create this colorful gacha machine, designed to store and display special LEGO minifigures. The LEGO IDEAS platform also launched a fan vote for minifigures—did you vote for your favorite one?

PS: JMBricklayer also has 2 interesting Gachapon sets. You can click here for a quick look.

LEGO Idea West River Steamboat

LEGO Idea West River Steamboat

The West River Steamboat set, which passed the review alongside the Minifigure Gacha Machine, has now entered the production phase and will become an official LEGO IDEAS set in the future. The final set will be adjusted by official designers, so it may not look exactly like the image you see, but if it closely resembles it, it’s sure to be a standout in the IDEAS theme.

This design was created by Aaron (username CTDpower) from St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The model showcases a four-level steamboat: the bottom layer features the paddle wheel and engine room, the second layer contains the passenger cabins, the third layer is a working deck with a terrace, and the top layer houses the pilothouse.

LEGO Idea The Autumn Snail

LEGO Idea The Autumn Snail

On May 16th, the LEGO IDEAS team announced the winner of the ‘Build Your Dream Gift With Purchase’ competition. Jagamax’s Autumn Snails took first place with a total of 806 votes and is set to enter production, becoming an official LEGO IDEAS GWP set in the future.

This design uses 250 pieces and features a building style similar to the 21342 Insects series. It primarily showcases two brick-built snails with spiral shells, accompanied by a scene that includes a log, a small rock, a puddle of water, and some green plants. The scene even features slime trails left by the snails.

PS: JMBricklayer also has 2 interesting Insects Set sets. You can click here for a quick look.

LEGO Ideas The Italian Riviera

LEGO Ideas The Italian Riviera

Seagulls soaring, sunlight shining, the beach stretching out, waves crashing—imagine living in this beautiful place. Who would you most want to share this view with? This design was submitted to the IDEAS platform by fan designer Galaxy333, who is actually 18-year-old Alex Sahli from Oregon, USA.

The design consists of approximately 3,000 pieces and passed the review in the recently announced third round of 2023. It is now officially in production.

LEGO Ideas Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

LEGO Ideas Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a model co-designed by 2PPL (Roberto Ceruti and Jody Padulano) and published through their shared IDEAS account, 2PPL. This design earned 10,000 votes of support on its second submission, proving that perseverance pays off.

The model also uses around 3,000 LEGO pieces and includes 8 minifigures of characters from the film, recreating the whimsical, sweet interior of the chocolate factory. It’s important to note that the model is based on the 1971 film, not the 2005 version directed by Tim Burton.

    1. Thanks for your kind words! The Italian Riviera is truly stunning, and the West River Steamboat has such a unique charm. What do you think makes these places so special for you?

      1. JMB-Samon,
My reasons for liking this build so much is that “The Italian Riviera” is sort of lifelike. It gives off a feeling of quaint and cozy, and warm and happy for me. The colors used along with the textures really gives “The Italian Riviera” that feeling of a beautiful little Italian village that you want to visit. The corner Gelato shop at an angle gives the build more dimension or depth.
I’d be proud to display one in my home!

        1. I totally agree—the warm, cozy vibe is what makes “The Italian Riviera” so charming. What other details caught your eye?

  1. JMB-Samon,
The shutters and roof shingles made it stand out I think. I noticed the flowering vines on the sides of the buildings and the boy with his camera, and the last reading her book on the balcony….the kids eating ice cream. It screams happiness for me! I love it!

      1. I grew up in farm country; not a lot of light pollution. So I’ve always been a Stargazer.
Even now, living in the downtown of a big city, I’m still out there on my balcony, watching.
I don’t have a scope and couldn’t name the constellations.
I just find the night sky endlessly fascinating.
Pretty sure I even saw a line of Starlink Satellites go by one night.

        1. That’s amazing! Stargazing really connects us with the universe, doesn’t it? Have you ever tried using apps to identify constellations? They can really enhance the experience, even in the city!
