Doctor Strange debuted in Strange Tales #110 (1963), created by the legendary team of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
Once a gifted neurosurgeon named Stephen Strange, his life changed forever when a devastating car accident ruined the nerves in his hands. Unable to perform surgery, he desperately sought a cure, traveling the globe and consulting experts, all to no avail. His search ultimately brought him to the Himalayas and the enigmatic figure known as the Ancient One. There, instead of finding a medical fix, Strange was accepted as a student and taught the secrets of magic, learning to channel mystical energy through spells and mental discipline. As he trained, the dexterity in his hands slowly returned. Mastering the mystic arts, he emerged as Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme and Earth’s primary defender against magical threats.

SH296

The first Lego Doctor Strange minifigure boasts intricate printing on both its torso and legs. Dominated by dark blue, the design incorporates dark gray accents on the collar, waist section, and leg straps. The layering effect of the printing is enhanced by a distinct brown and black belt. Capturing his movie look, the hair piece features white printed temples that correspond with the white streaks in his beard. Furthermore, the head features dual-sided printing, allowing you to display him with either a serious or an angry expression.

Comparing the minifigure to the movie portrayal reveals a few inaccuracies, such as the choice of a brown belt, the specific design printed for the Eye of Agamotto, and the particular hair piece selected.
Two of Doctor Strange’s most important mystical tools are the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation. The Eye grants the ability to perceive illusions, counteract dark magic, and gaze into the past or future. It also served as a key plot device throughout Phase 3 of the MCU.
The Cloak of Levitation allows Doctor Strange to float and fly. It’s semi-sentient and can aid him in battle or protect him from harm. Lego designed this minifigure’s Cloak with a special one-piece tailored construction, something previously unseen on any other minifigure.

SH509

Identical to SH269 except for the hair piece and the cloak (uses a two-piece style instead).

This minifigure is exclusive to set 76108, The Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown, which was released in 2018.

SH777

Reflecting Doctor Strange’s rising prominence in the MCU, Lego refreshed his minifigure design. This updated costume features printing that better captures his film look, yet the overall style and the prominent bright blue chest detail nod towards his comic book origins. Significant attention was paid to the belt, which now showcases details like front/back loops and the inclusion of his Sling Ring. The Eye of Agamotto also benefits from a more detailed printing, rendered in a striking metallic ink that really sparkles in the light. Other updates include changing the hair/beard accents at the temples from white to gray. Finally, the dual-sided head now provides a choice between serious and smiling expressions.

For this version, Lego replaced the previous fabric cloaks with a newly molded rubber cape, designed to look more flowing and dynamic.
Appears Exclusively In: Set 76185: Spider-Man at the Sanctum Workshop (released in 2021).

SH802

Minifigure SH802 takes its core design from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with a costume style that leans more towards his comic book appearance. The printed Eye of Agamotto on the chest stands out prominently. Dark red lines accent the patterns on the clothing and the belt. However, the legs, hair piece, and head (with the same expressions) are carried over from SH777.
SH802 has essentially become the standard Doctor Strange minifigure. It appears in the following sets and promotional items:
- Set 76205: Gargantos Showdown (2022)
- Set 76218: Sanctum Sanctorum (2022)
- Paper Bag 242317: Doctor Strange (2023)
- Polybag 30652: Doctor Strange’s Interdimensional Portal (2023)
- Set 76261: Spider-Man Final Battle (2023)
SH909

Minifigure SH909 is basically a cloak-less version of SH802, yet Lego gave it this distinct identification number. Technically, it isn’t treated as an exclusive figure since it simply lacks the cloak accessory found on the common SH802. This version was included in the 2023 Avengers Advent Calendar (Set 76267).

SH830

The Evil Doctor Strange minifigure uses a dark color palette throughout, blending dark blue, dark brown, and black tones. His head print is dual-sided; one face is angry with three eyes, and the reverse side shows him with eyes closed in an evil smirk/smile.
Appears Exclusively In: Set 76218: Sanctum Sanctorum (released in 2022)

SH833

With the exception of the reused hair piece, this Zombie Doctor Strange consists of entirely new parts. Detailed printing on the body and legs effectively portrays the damaged state of his clothes, including small printed details on the feet. The approach to the facial expression is arguably a bit cartoonish/goofy, though; it lacks the full extent of the scars and bloody, torn mouth characteristic of Zombie Strange in the source material – presumably a choice by Lego to soften the look for children. The head features only a single expression on the front, while the back has minimal printing suggesting decay.

Summary
Through the end of 2024, Lego has released a total of 7 Doctor Strange minifigures (including the cloak-less SH909), 5 of which were exclusive to specific sets. Although Doctor Strange is popular in the comics, most fans and collectors recognize him primarily from his appearances in the MCU films. This popularity has driven up the cost, making it quite expensive to start collecting his minifigures now. For instance, the first version (SH269) commands high prices on the secondary market (potentially exceeding 200 RMB for a new one). Even the more recent 2022 variants, Evil Strange and Zombie Strange from set 76218, often sell for around 70 RMB each.
Fortunately, the SH802 version remains an affordable and accessible option. If you aren’t aiming for a complete collection, this figure is highly recommended and worth picking up.
Whether Lego will design new Doctor Strange minifigures in the immediate future remains uncertain. However, given that the two post-credit scenes in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness strongly hinted at a third movie, and his potential role in the upcoming Avengers 5 and 6 is still unknown, further minifigure iterations seem quite possible down the line.
